Lucknow: Dr. Ramizuddin Naik, also known as Ramiz Malik, who faces allegations of sexual harassment and forced religious conversion of a female doctor at King George’s Medical University (KGMU), is set to be dismissed. Based on the findings of the Vishakha Committee, KGMU has sent a proposal for his termination to the Directorate General of Medical Education (DGME). Vice-Chancellor Dr. Sonia Nityanand emphasized that under no circumstances will Ramiz Malik continue to be a part of KGMU.
Dr. Naik was suspended on December 22, and his access to the campus has already been barred. The Vishakha Committee found him guilty in its investigation. The accused appeared before the committee only once, claiming that his relationship with the female doctor was consensual.
Claims of Being Unmarried
During the inquiry, the accused stated that he was unmarried. A separate investigation is also underway at KGMU regarding allegations of forced religious conversion and extremist activities. DGME is reportedly preparing to take swift action against him.
Victim Attempted Suicide
The female doctor alleged that Dr. Naik lured her with promises of marriage, sexually exploited her, forced an abortion, and pressured her to convert her religion. Distressed, she reportedly attempted suicide by taking sleeping pills and was later admitted to a trauma center.
Two Committees Conducting Investigations
The female doctor lodged complaints with KGMU administration, the police, the Chief Minister’s portal, and the Women’s Commission. KGMU has formed two committees to investigate the matter: the Vishakha Committee is handling the sexual harassment allegations, while a seven-member panel, which includes a retired DGP, is probing the religious conversion claims. The Vishakha Committee submitted its report to the Vice-Chancellor on Thursday.
Vishakha Committee Chairperson’s Statement
Dr. Monika Kohli, Chairperson of the Vishakha Committee, stated that the investigation revealed the victim endured emotional, physical, and mental harassment. “The accused misled her, assuring her that he was unmarried and repeatedly made false promises of marriage. We recommend strict disciplinary action against him and support for the victim,” she said.
Investigation Continues
KGMU spokesperson Prof. K.K. Singh said that the university formed a seven-member committee for the case. “Police are investigating the religious conversion aspect. The university wants the guilty to face the strictest possible punishment. Multiple statements have been recorded, but details of individuals allegedly protecting the accused have not yet emerged,” he added.
Threats to the Victim
According to KGMU authorities, the victim discovered in September that the accused was already married and sought to end the relationship. However, Dr. Naik continued to promise marriage and allegedly threatened to leak her photos and videos on social media. An FIR has been filed, and the police investigation is ongoing.
