Lucknow, UP: In a significant development in the “Love Jihad” case at King George Medical University (KGMU), Lucknow, junior resident doctor Rameez has been suspended and barred from entering the university campus. A formal case has also been registered against him following a complaint to the Chief Minister and the Uttar Pradesh State Commission for Women.
Case Details
The accused, Dr. Rameez, allegedly concealed his first marriage while luring a female doctor into a relationship and pressuring her to convert her religion for marriage. When the victim resisted, she was reportedly harassed, leading her to attempt suicide. She has since been discharged from the hospital.
Administrative Action
After receiving complaints, the Vishakh Committee took cognizance of the matter. Considering the gravity of the allegations, the committee expressed concern that Dr. Rameez could influence investigations if allowed to continue his duties on campus. As a result, he has been barred from entering KGMU premises.
During the suspension, Dr. Rameez is required to remain at the KGMU headquarters but will not perform any official duties. He will, however, participate in the ongoing investigation. Statements from both the victim and the accused have been recorded, and during questioning, the doctor claimed to be unmarried.
Public and Political Response
The case gained widespread attention after the Vishva Hindu Parishad staged a protest at KGMU on Monday and submitted a memorandum to the university vice-chancellor. The matter continues to draw significant public scrutiny.
