KGMU Conversion Case: Police Step Up Action Against Absconding Doctor Rameez; Reward Increased, Property Attachment Notices Issued

Troubles have mounted for Dr Rameez Malik, the prime accused in the alleged love jihad and forced religious conversion case linked to King George’s Medical University (KGMU), as police intensified efforts to arrest him. With the accused still absconding, authorities have enhanced the cash reward to ₹50,000 for information leading to his arrest and have also initiated property attachment proceedings.

Multiple police teams are conducting raids at possible hideouts, but despite sustained efforts, Dr Rameez remains out of reach. Acting under strict directions from Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the police have escalated coercive measures to pressure the accused into surrendering.

Attachment Notices Pasted at Residences

Police have pasted property attachment notices at Dr Rameez Malik’s residences in New Riya area of Pilibhit and Hussainabad in Lucknow. Notices have also been displayed within the KGMU campus, warning staff, students and doctors and encouraging them to confidentially report any cases related to alleged love jihad or religious conversion. KGMU authorities have assured strict action following institutional inquiry.

Parents Arrested, Accused Still at Large

Earlier, the police arrested the parents of the accused doctor, but the main accused continues to evade arrest. Officials confirmed that proceedings under relevant legal provisions have been initiated to attach his property if he fails to appear before the authorities.

Vishakha Committee Finds Accused Guilty

The Vishakha Committee of KGMU, which was constituted to probe the allegations, has submitted its report to Vice-Chancellor Dr Sonia Nityanand. The seven-member committee completed the inquiry within 15 days and reportedly found Dr Rameez Malik guilty. Based on the findings, cancellation of his admission is also being considered.

Claims of Multiple Victims

Meanwhile, Uttar Pradesh Women’s Commission Vice-Chairperson Aparna Yadav has claimed that the accused had targeted 15 to 17 Hindu women. She asserted that the accused would be arrested “even if he is hiding underground.”

Government Takes Hard Line

The Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government has adopted a zero-tolerance stance on the case, terming the allegations extremely serious. Officials said strict legal action will follow against all those found involved, and no leniency will be shown.

Investigations are ongoing, and police have urged the public to come forward with any credible information related to the whereabouts of the accused.
