KFC, Lulu Hypermarket and ‘Gabru Di Chaap’ Found Violating Standards; Multiple Mall Restaurants in Lucknow Declared ‘Unsafe’

In a major statewide crackdown, the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FSDA) has intensified inspections in Lucknow’s leading malls after irregularities were recently detected in several well-known sweet shops. This time, the FSDA teams raided five prominent malls simultaneously and collected 58 food samples for laboratory testing.

During the inspection, serious violations were found at Lulu Hypermarket, Gabru Di Chaap, and the KFC outlet at One Awadh Center Mall. All three establishments have been ordered to shut down immediately. They will remain closed for at least 15 days, and will only be allowed to reopen after rectifying the issues and clearing a fresh inspection.

FSDA’s 14 state-level teams inspected food outlets at Phoenix Mall, Wave Mall, Emerald Mall, Fun Republic, One Awadh Center, Palacio Mall, and Lulu Mall. Chief Food Safety Officer JP Singh informed that samples from 63 establishments were collected and sent to the laboratory. Further action will be taken based on the test results and the compliance status of each outlet.

Major Findings During the Inspection

KFC, One Awadh Center Mall
The team found unhygienic conditions and suspected food quality issues. Samples were taken and the outlet was shut until improvements are made.

Lulu Hypermarket, Lulu Mall
Manufacturing dates on several food items were unclear or missing. The store has been sealed until fresh and clearly labelled stock is ensured.

Gabru Di Chaap, Lulu Mall
Food items were reportedly being sold without a valid license. The outlet was ordered to shut down immediately.

In addition, 34 other establishments were issued improvement notices after minor irregularities were detected during inspection.

The FSDA has made it clear that the crackdown will continue, and strict action will be taken against any establishment that compromises food hygiene and safety. Consumers are urged to stay alert and check the hygiene standards and food labels before making purchases in mall restaurants and supermarkets.
