Kawardha Man Wanders Door to Door With His Ailing Wife on a Bike; Deputy CM Steps In With Help After Hearing His Story

Kawardha, Chhattisgarh: In a heartbreaking story of love, struggle, and determination, a 65-year-old man from Nagwahi village in Kawardha district has been carrying his cancer-stricken wife on his motorcycle for years in search of treatment. Despite losing everything—his land, jewelry, and savings—he refuses to give up hope.

Samlu Singh Markam’s wife, Kapura Markam, has been suffering from thyroid cancer for nearly three years. With no money left for an ambulance or private transport, Samlu built a wooden plank on his motorcycle, on which his wife lies as he takes her from one hospital to another, often traveling hundreds of kilometers under scorching heat and heavy rain.

He Sold His Land, Ornaments, and Borrowed ₹6 Lakh

In his desperate attempt to save his wife, Samlu sold his family jewelry, utensils, and even his small plot of land. He also borrowed around ₹6 lakh from relatives for medical expenses. He has taken his wife for treatment to Durg, Raipur, and even Mumbai, but her condition has shown little improvement.

Despite all hardships, Samlu remains optimistic. “I will keep trying until my wife recovers. I believe one day she will be fine,” he says with teary eyes.

Deputy Chief Minister Offers Financial Help

Recently, when Samlu approached Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, the minister was deeply moved by his condition. He immediately provided ₹10,000 in financial assistance and arranged for the patient’s admission to the district hospital. However, due to deteriorating health, Kapura had to be taken back to the village.

Still Seeking Hope

Samlu continues to knock on doors for help. “Wherever I hear that treatment is possible, I go there,” he says. “Even if I have nothing left, I won’t stop trying.”

His story is a stark reminder of the plight of rural healthcare and the unbreakable spirit of a man who refuses to let his wife’s hope fade away.
