Srinagar/New Delhi:
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested another Kashmiri doctor in connection with the Delhi blast case, intensifying its crackdown across the Kashmir Valley. The arrested individual, Dr. Bilal Nasir Malla, a resident of Baramulla in north Kashmir, is the eighth person to be taken into custody in this case.
Doctor Accused of Sheltering Key Terrorist
According to the NIA, Dr. Bilal was actively involved in the conspiracy behind the terrorist attack. Investigations revealed that he provided shelter and logistical support to slain terrorist Umar Un Nabi, believed to be the mastermind and suicide attacker behind the 10 November blast near the Red Fort in Delhi.
The agency also accused Dr. Bilal of destroying crucial evidence linked to the attack. NIA officials stated that the probe aims to expose the entire network responsible for plotting the deadly blast, in coordination with multiple central and state agencies.
Search Operations Intensify in South Kashmir
A day earlier, an NIA team brought two suspects — Dr. Adeel and Jaseer Bilal — to Kashmir for field verification. The agency revisited suspected hideouts and possible support networks that may have assisted the module. Several doctors are believed to be part of the wider conspiracy.
Searches were conducted across parts of South Kashmir, including forested areas near Mattan in Anantnag district. Officials said the raids were prompted by new leads uncovered during interrogation, including names and locations provided by the suspects.
Background: Investigating the Red Fort Blast
The NIA is probing the suicide blast that occurred near the Red Fort on 10 November, allegedly carried out by Pulwama-based Dr. Umar Un Nabi. The case is linked to an earlier incident in Faridabad, where explosive materials were recovered just hours before the Delhi blast.
The chain of events further intensified after a tragic accident on 15 November at the Naugam police station in Srinagar, where nine people — including forensic experts and police personnel — were killed while examining the seized explosives. The Jammu & Kashmir Police’s State Investigation Agency (SIA) is conducting a parallel probe into that incident.
NIA’s Investigation Continues Unabated
With the latest arrest, the NIA has tightened its grip on the terror module suspected of orchestrating the attack. Officials confirmed that raids and search operations across the Valley will continue until the entire network is dismantled.
