Bengaluru: A new political controversy has erupted in Karnataka after a video surfaced showing a group of people offering namaz inside Terminal 2 of Kempegowda International Airport. The clip, which quickly went viral on social media, has ignited a heated debate between the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP.
In the video, several individuals can be seen praying in a public area of the terminal, despite the availability of a designated prayer room inside the airport. According to reports, the people offering prayers were relatives of passengers departing for Mecca. Airport staff and security personnel were also seen nearby, seemingly allowing the act to continue, which has raised security and administrative concerns.
Reacting sharply, BJP spokesperson Vijay Prasad questioned Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and IT Minister Priyank Kharge on social media platform X. “How was this permitted inside the high-security T2 terminal of Bengaluru International Airport? Did these individuals have prior approval to offer prayers there? Does the Chief Minister endorse this?” he asked.
Drawing a comparison with restrictions placed on RSS events, Prasad further added, “The Congress government often objects to RSS path sanchalans that follow proper procedure, yet turns a blind eye to such public religious gatherings.” He also tagged both Siddaramaiah and Priyank Kharge in his post, demanding an official clarification.
Amid mounting criticism, sources indicate that the Karnataka government is considering stricter regulations to prohibit any form of religious or political gatherings within airport premises — a rule that could apply uniformly to all organizations, including the RSS.
The incident has once again exposed the deepening political and ideological rift in Karnataka, where issues of faith and public policy continue to collide in the charged atmosphere ahead of upcoming elections.
