Karnataka Governor’s Grandson Booked for Dowry Harassment; Wife Alleges ₹50 Lakh Demand and Attempt to Push Her Off Roof

Ratlam: A serious case of dowry harassment has been registered against the family of Karnataka Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot. The Governor’s grandson, Devendra Gehlot, has been accused by his wife, Divya Gehlot, of demanding ₹50 lakh and subjecting her to mental and physical torture.

Divya, who appeared before the Ratlam Superintendent of Police on Tuesday, alleged that her husband and in-laws harassed her for dowry and even attempted to push her off the roof. She further claimed that her four-year-old daughter has been forcibly kept away from her by the in-laws.

Accused Include Husband and In-Laws
Divya has named her husband Devendra Gehlot, father-in-law Jitendra Gehlot, brother-in-law Vishal Gehlot, and grandmother-in-law Anita Gehlot in her complaint. Speaking to the media, she said that the family continuously pressured her to bring ₹50 lakh from her parents and mentally abused her for failing to do so.

She alleged that her young daughter has been kept in her in-laws’ custody against her will and that she is not allowed to meet the child. According to Divya, during an incident in Nagda, an attempt was made to throw her off the roof. She fell onto a gallery and remained unattended throughout the night before being taken to a hospital the next day.

Living with Parents After Harassment
Divya, whose marital home is in Nagda near Ujjain, is currently staying with her parents in Ratlam. She stated that she approached Ratlam SP Amit Kumar, who advised her to file the complaint with the Ujjain IG and SP, as Nagda falls under their jurisdiction. Nevertheless, the Ratlam police have accepted her written complaint.

Ratlam Additional SP Rakesh Khakha confirmed that the grievance has been forwarded to Ujjain police for appropriate action, as the incident occurred there. So far, there has been no response from the accused family members.

Marriage Under Government Scheme
Divya was married to Devendra Gehlot on April 29, 2018, under the Chief Minister Kanyadan Yojana in Tal, Ratlam district. She claims that several facts were hidden at the time of marriage. She later discovered that her husband was addicted to alcohol and other substances and allegedly had relationships with other women.

Denied Access to Daughter
Divya said her in-laws have kept her four-year-old daughter at their home and do not allow her any contact. When she visited the school in November to meet her daughter, her husband reportedly refused to let her speak to the child. She alleged that her husband bluntly told her that unless she brought ₹50 lakh from her parents, she would not be allowed to see her daughter.
