Kanpur Woman Alleges Sexual Abuse, Fraud by Step-Brother; Appeals to CM at Public Grievance Forum

Kanpur, UP: In a disturbing case from Kanpur, a young woman has accused her step-brother of sexual assault, financial exploitation, and fraud. The victim approached the Chief Minister’s public grievance forum in Lucknow, seeking justice.

The victim, who has been living with her 11-year-old brother following the death of their parents, alleged that her step-brother repeatedly harassed her. She claimed that when she initially approached the police station with her complaint, a police officer allegedly accepted money and failed to take action. Following her plea, the Chief Minister directed the Police Commissioner to submit a detailed report on the case.

Family Tragedy and Living Situation
The victim resides in Kalyanpur Police Station area. Her father passed away on March 30, 2020, and her mother on August 2, 2023. Since then, she has been living in her ancestral house with her minor brother. During this period, her step-brother, along with his wife, frequently visited the house.

According to her, the step-brother once attempted to assault her when she was alone at home. Later, he and his wife apologized and gained her trust again.

Alleged Financial Exploitation
The victim also alleged that her step-brother fraudulently used her bank account to transfer the sale proceeds of the ancestral property, which was sold for ₹22 lakh. He misled her with promises of a new house, and during the registry process, she received only a cheque of ₹11.5 lakh, while the remaining amount was allegedly transferred to his account under the pretense of a new property.

Threats and Blackmail
The woman claimed that when she questioned him about the money, the accused threatened her and attempted to harm her brother, using blackmail to continue sexual exploitation. She later approached Kalyanpur police station, but no substantive action was initially taken. The step-brother was eventually arrested after the Police Commissioner’s intervention, but a police officer allegedly released him in exchange for ₹1 lakh.

Investigation Underway
DCP West confirmed that the case is under investigation by ACP Kalyanpur. Further action will be taken based on the inquiry, and the matter has been escalated to the state administration for review.
