Kanpur, UP: A shocking case of ragging and assault has surfaced at Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture and Technology in Kanpur. A first-year BSc Forestry student was reportedly beaten by senior students after resisting ragging. The victim subsequently filed a complaint on the UGC Anti-Ragging Portal, alleging that the university administration attempted to suppress the incident.
Incident Details
According to the victim, on the evening of 5th November, while walking from Karpuri Thakur Hostel to the mess, he was targeted by senior students stationed at Tilak Hostel, who began throwing stones. When he attempted to leave, the seniors physically assaulted him. The student contacted DSW Munish Kumar and the Dean via video call to report the incident. Shockingly, the victim alleges that during the live call, he was slapped.
Administration Under Scrutiny
The student claimed that for over a week, the administration did not take appropriate action. On 11th November, when summoned to the office, the DSW and Dean allegedly told him, “You got beaten there, and you will get beaten here too.” This statement, combined with pressure to withdraw the complaint, left the victim deeply distressed.
Action Taken
After the matter became public through media coverage, the DSW took disciplinary action, suspending two of the accused students from the academic session and evicting them from the hostel. Meanwhile, the university administration has denied the allegations of ragging.
This case highlights ongoing concerns over student safety and accountability in campus environments, raising questions about timely administrative intervention in ragging incidents.
