
KANPUR: In a shocking incident, a thief arrested for stealing three kilograms of silver from a jewelry shop escaped from Gujaini police station after pushing a Home Guard officer.
The accused was being escorted to the bathroom by Home Guard Rajkumar when he suddenly pushed him and fled. Police teams gave chase, but the suspect vanished into a nearby slum.
According to police, the accused, identified as Kallu, had been arrested for attempting a theft in Gujaini after earlier being implicated in the December 14 robbery at Balaji Jewelers in Jarauli Phase-2. Two other accused, Vishal Gupta and Karan, had already been jailed.
Following the escape, the station head filed a report citing negligence. A woman constable serving as GD Munshi has been suspended, and the Home Guard’s commanding officer has been notified for further action. Departmental inquiries have also been ordered against the day officer and the station in-charge.
DCP South, Deependranath Chaudhary, confirmed that extensive searches are underway to apprehend the escaped suspect.
