A disturbing gang-rape case involving a minor in Kanpur has exposed serious lapses in the city’s police force. In response, Kanpur Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal has placed ACP Panki under suspension and dismissed Bhimsen Police Chowki in-charge Dinesh Kumar.
Incident Details
The victim, a minor girl from a village in the Sachendi police station area, went missing on Monday evening and returned home late at night in a disoriented state. She told her family that two men forcibly abducted her in a black Scorpio and took her near the Jhansi railway line, where she was allegedly gang-raped inside the vehicle.
When the family first approached Bhimsen Chowki for help, they were reportedly turned away. It was only after repeated pleas to senior police authorities that an FIR was registered. Initially, sections related to gang rape and the POCSO Act were not applied. On Wednesday, public outrage prompted Police Commissioner Raghubir Lal to remove DCP West from field duties and transfer him to headquarters.
Accused Identified
Investigation led by ADCP West Kapil Dev revealed that the accused are YouTuber Shivbaran Yadav from Chandrahanspur and police officer Amit Maurya, originally from Gorakhpur. Both are alleged to have played a direct role in the crime. Additionally, the Sachendi inspector has been suspended for tampering with evidence.
