Kanpur Lamborghini Accident: Driver Claims He Was Driving, Police Deny

Kanpur (Rahul Parashar): The high-profile Lamborghini accident case in Kanpur involving the son of a prominent tobacco businessman has taken a dramatic turn. On Wednesday, the driver, Mohan, was presented before the ACJM court, claiming he was behind the wheel during the accident.

Mohan, through his lawyer, submitted a surrender application in court stating that an FIR has been registered in the matter, and he is ready to surrender. He asserted that he was driving the Lamborghini when the incident occurred, and that Shivam, the businessman’s son, was on the passenger seat.

However, the police refuted Mohan’s claims, stating that their investigation shows Shivam was driving the car at the time of the accident.

Driver’s Account

Speaking to the media after the court appearance, Mohan said that Shivam had collapsed on his shoulder while Mohan was driving. “I was handling the car carefully, moving at a slow speed. Suddenly, I lost my balance, and the car hit the divider,” Mohan said. He added that Shivam was not involved in causing the accident.

Police and Family Statements

The accident took a dramatic turn on Tuesday when the tobacco businessman himself reached Gwaltauli police station and stated that driver Mohan was driving, and Shivam was seated next to him. According to him, Shivam’s sudden health issue led Mohan to support him, which allegedly caused the car to collide with an auto-rickshaw and lock. Onlookers reportedly broke the car window to rescue both Mohan and Shivam.

CCTV footage of Shivam being removed from the driving seat has gone viral on social media. DCP Central, Atul Srivastava, stated that the investigation indicates Shivam was driving the car, corroborated by CCTV evidence and eyewitnesses. A police report will be submitted to court, and Shivam is likely to be summoned.

Shivam’s Court Submission

Shivam Kumar Mishra also submitted a separate application in ACJM court claiming ownership of the car and stating that all documents are valid. He requested the release of the Lamborghini, citing that the public broke the car door and that no accident was caused due to negligence. Shivam’s father added that technical issues and Shivam’s sudden health condition contributed to the incident.

Settlement Reached with Victim

Senior Kanpur lawyer Dharmendra Singh Dharmu stated that Mohammad Taufiq, who had filed the case, has now submitted a settlement in court. Taufiq confirmed that he received compensation for his injuries and expressed satisfaction with the resolution.

The court will now review the reports from police and witnesses to determine liability in this high-profile accident.
