Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, January 17, 2026: In a shocking incident from Kanpur, a man allegedly strangled his wife to death and later informed the police at the local police station. The victim’s body was found wrapped in a blanket inside their room. The couple had married four months ago against family opposition.
The accused, Sachin Rajput, resides in a rented room above Muskaan Charitable Poly Clinic in Ruma, Maharajpur police station area. According to police, Sachin is originally from Mohanpur village in Fatehpur district and works as an auto-rickshaw driver. He had married Sweta Singh in August, despite objections from her family, and later moved to Surat for employment before returning to Kanpur.
Suspected Infidelity Triggers Fatal Clash
Sachin told the police that on the night of January 13, he returned to his room after attending work in Fatehpur and found his wife allegedly in bed with two young men. An argument ensued, during which Sachin reportedly lost control. He claimed that his wife and the two men had previously assaulted him and threatened him via phone, escalating tensions further.
According to the accused, his relationship with Sweta had existed for three years. He alleged that he had been suspicious of her activities for some time. On Saturday morning, in a fit of rage, he strangled Sweta to death.
Family Disputes and Past Legal Issues
Sachin also claimed that Sweta’s family had earlier filed cases of molestation and sexual assault against him at Ghazipur police station. He was imprisoned for two months and, upon release, married Sweta. He alleged that threats from her family continued even after marriage, but he tried to support her through his livelihood. Unable to tolerate her alleged behavior, he committed the murder.
Following his confession, police conducted a forensic examination of the crime scene and have taken the body for post-mortem. The accused remains in police custody, and further investigation is ongoing.
