
Kanpur: Tensions flared in Chakeri, Kanpur, after a BJP Yuva Morcha leader alleged assault by police officials inside a local police station. The incident sparked outrage among party workers, who staged a protest outside the station.
According to the victim, Saurabh Nishad, who serves as the Minister of the Harjinder Nagar Mandal of BJP Yuva Morcha, he was manhandled and detained at the Ramdevi Police Chowki on Sunday. Saurabh claims that he was slapped and beaten inside the police station.
Incident Details:
Saurabh Nishad, a resident of Lal Bangla, Safipur Pratham in Chakeri, stated that he was delivering tiffin to his father’s vegetable shop around 2 PM on Sunday when he came across a group allegedly playing gambling in the neighborhood. The police, including the chowki in-charge and four to five officers, arrived at the scene and detained him along with five others on the charge of gambling.
Despite providing his official identity, Saurabh claims that the police took him to the station, verbally abused him, and even snatched his mobile phone. He alleges that he was beaten with a baton inside the station.
Protests and Response:
Following the incident, Saurabh contacted the Mandal President to report the matter. When he later went with party members to file a complaint, he reportedly faced further mistreatment. Angered by the alleged assault, BJP workers staged a protest outside the police station, demanding action against the chowki in-charge and the officers involved.
Chakeri ACP Abhishek Pandey arrived at the scene to pacify the protesters and assured them that a thorough investigation would be conducted and strict action taken based on the findings.
The ACP confirmed that allegations of assault and misconduct have been made against the police personnel involved, and a formal inquiry has been initiated.
