Ranchi, Jharkhand: The capital city Ranchi and much of Jharkhand are experiencing a sudden drop in temperatures as cold winds sweep in from the north. According to the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, the skies over the state are expected to remain mostly clear over the next three days, though light clouds and morning fog may persist in some areas.
On Friday morning, Ranchi saw light cloud cover and patches of fog across several areas. Cold northerly winds continued throughout the day, intensifying the chill. Over the past 24 hours, temperatures in the capital have fallen noticeably, making the cold more pronounced for residents.
Impact of Snowfall in Northern and Hilly Regions
Meteorologist Abhishek Anand of the Ranchi Weather Department noted that recent snowfall in northern India and the hilly regions has caused a resurgence of cold, or kanakani, across Jharkhand, including Ranchi. He added that cold winds entering from the northwestern regions are expected to lower minimum temperatures by 3–4°C over the next two days.
Weather Outlook for Early February
Anand further stated that while the probability of rainfall over the next four days remains low, changes in weather may occur on 3 and 4 February. During this period, light to moderate morning fog is expected, especially in plains and areas near water bodies, which could reduce visibility and add to the cold.
