Ranchi: In a decisive move to free the RIMS (Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences) premises from illegal encroachments, the Ranchi administration has demolished the controversial ‘Kailash Kothi’ near the DIG Maidan in Bariatu, following a directive from the Jharkhand High Court. The demolition sparked tension on-site, requiring deployment of significant police forces to maintain order.
Strong Opposition During Demolition
As the administrative team, including magistrates and local officials, arrived to carry out the demolition, residents and supporters of Kailash Kothi protested fiercely. The escalating situation prompted authorities to call in reinforced security, allowing the bulldozer to proceed under police protection. The encroachment reportedly occupied 33 decimal of land acquired for RIMS.
Legal Challenge Rejected
In an attempt to save the structure, a petition was filed in the High Court by Khushboo Singh, claiming that the land acquisition by RIMS was invalid and that she possessed legitimate documents. However, the court dismissed the petition, stating it lacked merit, and confirmed its earlier decision on December 23, 2025, allowing the administration to proceed.
Court-Ordered Eviction Drive
The demolition is part of a larger, phased campaign initiated by the district administration to remove all encroachments from RIMS land, as per the High Court’s strict instructions on a public interest litigation. Authorities emphasized that reclaiming hospital land is essential for both legal compliance and institutional functionality.
The Kailash Kothi episode underscores the administration’s commitment to uphold court orders, assert authority, and ensure proper use of public land, even amid strong local opposition.
