Ashoknagar: Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia made a notable visit to the residence of Congress leader and former MLA Gopal Singh Chauhan on Wednesday, drawing attention in the local political scene. Gopal Singh, known to be a close associate of senior Congress leader Digvijay Singh, welcomed Scindia warmly, touching his feet as a mark of respect.
Scindia, currently touring his parliamentary constituency of Ashoknagar, paid homage to the late mother of the former MLA at his residence in Chanderi assembly area. During his visit, he interacted with the Chauhan family, inquiring about their well-being and reminiscing about past political experiences.
The arrival of Scindia at the Congress leader’s home sparked curiosity and drew a crowd, as Gopal Singh personally received him, touching his feet in greeting.
Despite their political differences—Scindia having joined the BJP after leaving Congress, and Gopal Singh previously criticizing him—Scindia’s visit was seen as a gesture of respect following the death of Chauhan’s mother.
During the meeting, the two leaders shared light-hearted memories. Scindia recalled that Gopal Singh used to be very shy during elections. Chauhan, in turn, expressed that it was Scindia who had taught him how to give speeches, saying, “I couldn’t even speak properly, Maharaj. You kept urging me to speak, and gradually I learned.” Scindia, laughing and patting Chauhan on the back, replied, “Now you speak so much that I have to say, ‘Wait, wait!’” To this, Chauhan folded his hands and said, “If I have ever made a mistake, please forgive me, Maharaj.”
This unexpected interaction between two leaders once considered political rivals has become a topic of discussion in Ashoknagar, highlighting a moment of mutual respect and reconciliation.
