Justice After 9 Years: Court Sends Six Members of One Family to Life Imprisonment for Murder of 70-Year-Old Man

In a major judgment delivered nine years after the crime, a Hanumangarh court has sentenced six members of the same family to life imprisonment for the murder of 70-year-old Bhagwan Singh. The verdict, passed by ADJ-II Latika Deepak Parashar, has drawn significant attention across the region.

Court Finds All Six Accused Guilty of Brutal Murder

The case dates back to 2016, when Bhagwan Singh, a resident of Chandoorwali, was killed following a violent dispute. His brother, Khajan Singh, lodged the complaint at Tibbi Police Station, alleging that the accused—Bagga Singh, Makkhan Singh, Mangal Singh, Surendra alias Bittu, another Mangal Singh, and Kashmiro (wife of Bagga Singh)—attacked the elderly man with fatal blows to the head.

After years of hearings and evidence examination, the court concluded that all six were responsible for the premeditated assault that led to the victim’s death.

Life Sentence and Heavy Fine Imposed

Delivering its judgment, the court sentenced the six convicts to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of ₹50,000 each. The order was passed after the court found no mitigating circumstances that could justify leniency in such a grave offence.

The court emphasised that the brutal killing of a senior citizen over a dispute was an act that demanded the strictest punishment to uphold justice and deter similar crimes.

Case That Shocked the Community

The murder had shocked residents of Hanumangarh nine years ago, as the attack involved neighbours who were well-known to the victim.
The police had filed the chargesheet in the High Court, and the case continued in the trial court until the final verdict was delivered this week.

With the conclusion of this long-pending case, Bhagwan Singh’s family has finally received justice.
