Just 3 Feet Tall, Battled Through Supreme Court, Now a Medical Officer: Meet Gujarat’s Dr. Ganesh Baraiya

Ahmedabad: At just 25 years old, Dr. Ganesh Baraiya has achieved what many would have deemed impossible. Standing only 3 feet tall and weighing just 20 kg due to dwarfism, Ganesh has recently begun his first posting as a medical officer after a long and challenging journey that even took him to the Supreme Court of India.

A Journey of Determination
Born with dwarfism, Ganesh faced severe physical limitations, with a 72% disability in mobility. Despite this, he excelled academically, scoring 87% in Class 12 and clearing NEET with 233 marks. However, in 2018, the Gujarat government denied him and two other disabled students admission to MBBS courses. Ganesh, supported by his school principal Dalpat Kataria and trustee Revatsingh Sarvaiya, challenged the decision in the Supreme Court, which ruled in favor of the students.

Medical Training: Overcoming Unique Challenges
Medical school brought its own hurdles. During anatomy dissections, professors and friends reserved front-row seats for him. During surgeries, classmates even lifted him onto their shoulders so he could observe procedures up close. His perseverance and the support of his mentors ensured that no physical limitation could block his dream.

A Heartfelt Goal
Dr. Baraiya’s immediate priority is building a proper brick house for his family in Gorakhi village, Bhavnagar district. Born to farming parents with eight siblings, his family still lives in a modest, unfinished home. With his salary, he is now able to continue construction and provide them a comfortable life.

A Doctor with Dreams
Despite his child-like stature and gentle voice, Ganesh carries calm confidence. Patients are often surprised at first sight, but once they learn about his journey, their trust in him is immediate. Looking ahead, Dr. Baraiya aims to specialize in pediatrics, dermatology, or radiology.

Conclusion
Dr. Ganesh Baraiya’s story is not just one of personal triumph over physical disability—it is a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of support from mentors and peers. His journey inspires countless others to pursue their dreams, no matter the obstacles.
