
Kuno National Park, Madhya Pradesh: The Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh witnessed a historic moment as Namibian cheetah Asha gave birth to five healthy cubs on 7 February 2026. The announcement of this remarkable achievement was made by Union Minister Bhupendra Yadav, marking a significant milestone for Project Cheetah in India.
With Asha’s latest litter, the number of live-born cheetah cubs in India has risen to 24, while the total cheetah population in the country now stands at 35.
A Major Milestone for Conservation Efforts
This birth represents not only a success for conservationists but also a significant boost to India’s efforts to reintroduce cheetahs in their natural habitats. Asha, who was brought from Namibia, has now become a mother for the second time, strengthening the hope for a thriving cheetah population in Kuno.
Union Environment Minister Bhupendra Yadav described the event as a moment of immense pride and joy for the nation’s wildlife conservation initiatives. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav also expressed his happiness at the successful birth, calling it a landmark achievement for Project Cheetah.
The arrival of five new cubs not only adds to the population but also reinforces India’s commitment to reviving species once declared extinct in the country, ensuring a sustainable future for these majestic predators.
