Journalist Detained in Noida for Threatening Colleague in Gangster Ravi Kana Case

Noida: A media professional in Noida has been taken into police custody for allegedly threatening a fellow journalist over news coverage related to gangster Ravi Kana. The accused reportedly warned the colleague not to air any reports against Kana and his associates, using calls and messages from foreign numbers.

Joint Police Operation

The Sector-20 police, in coordination with a central investigative agency, detained the journalist from Sector-93, Noida on Tuesday night. Preliminary investigation suggests that the accused had contacts with Ravi Kana and his gang members. Authorities seized the suspect’s electronic devices and conducted extended interrogation overnight.

Death Threats From Overseas Numbers

According to the victim, on the evening of 12 February, a call from a UK number (+44) claimed to be from an associate of Ravi Kana, warning that no news against the gangster should be broadcast. The caller threatened serious consequences if the warnings were ignored.

A follow-up call and message arrived on 15 February from a Thailand number (+66), stating: “Two days left, save yourself.” The victim immediately informed their media organization and lodged a written complaint with the Sector-20 police station, Noida.

Mobile Phone Found in Car

Police sources said the mobile phone used to make the threatening calls was recovered from under the seat of the suspect’s car. Preliminary inquiry revealed that an internet calling app was used to hide the sender’s identity.

DCP Yamuna Prasad stated that interrogation is ongoing, and the suspect’s mobile, SIM cards, and other digital devices are undergoing forensic examination. Investigators are also examining the nature and duration of the accused’s connection with Ravi Kana and the role he played within the gangster’s network.

Power Struggle Between Journalists

Initial investigations suggest that the threats may also be linked to a rivalry between the two journalists over professional dominance. Police are examining all angles and are relying on technical evidence before drawing conclusions.

Ravi Kana Fails to Appear in Court

Separately, Ravi Kana, who had secured anticipatory bail in a separate case related to extortion and death threats to a builder, failed to appear before police at Sector-63 police station as per court orders. Authorities confirmed that a thorough investigation is underway and further legal action will follow once evidence is consolidated.
