New Delhi:
The prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) is witnessing a charged political atmosphere today as students cast their votes for the JNU Students’ Union (JNUSU) elections for the academic year 2025–26. Ballot boxes have opened, and voting will continue throughout the day to elect the new student representatives for key posts, including President, Vice President, General Secretary, and Joint Secretary.
Both major factions — the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the Left Alliance (comprising AISA, DSF, and SFI) — have fielded their candidates and are claiming confident victories. However, the final verdict will be known only on November 6, when the counting of votes takes place.
Candidates in the Fray
For the President’s post, the contest includes Aditi Mishra, Angad Singh, Raj Ratan Rajoriya, Shinde Vijaylaxmi Venkata Rao, Shreesh Indu, Vikas Patel, and Vikas.
For the Vice President’s post, the candidates are Kizhakoot Gopika Babu, Sheikh Shahnawaz Alam, and Tanya Kumari.
For General Secretary, the names in contention are Gopi Krishnan U., Preeti, Rajeshwar Kant Dubey, Shuaib Khan, and Sunil Yadav.
And for Joint Secretary, the competition is between Anuj, Danish Ali, Kuldeep Ojha, Manmohan Mitruka, and Ravi Raj.
ABVP vs Left: The Political Line-Up
The ABVP has nominated Vikas Patel for President, Tanya Kumari for Vice President, Rajeshwar Kant Dubey for General Secretary, and Anuj Damara for Joint Secretary.
Meanwhile, the Left Alliance has fielded Aditi Mishra for President, Kizhakoot Gopika Babu for Vice President, Sunil Yadav for General Secretary, and Danish Ali for Joint Secretary.
All Eyes on November 6
With both camps exuding confidence and appealing for student support, the atmosphere in the JNU campus remains electric. While the Left alliance seeks to retain its traditional influence, the ABVP is looking to make significant inroads this year.
The final results, to be announced on November 6, will reveal who captures the leadership of one of India’s most politically vibrant campuses and shape the student politics of the coming year.
