Jhunjhunu College Ordered to Pay Retired Lecturer After 25 Years of Pending Dues

Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan: In a landmark move, the Rajasthan High Court has taken strict action against a girls’ college in Chidawa for withholding dues from a retired female lecturer for over 25 years. The court has directed the college and the state government to pay the amount along with interest within one month, failing which a higher interest rate will be applied.

A Long-Standing Delay
The retired lecturer, Shakuntala Patni, had been seeking payment since the civil court had ruled in her favor. Despite orders, the college repeatedly delayed the disbursement of ₹15,57,937 plus 9% interest. The High Court’s intervention finally provides relief to Patni, who has been waiting decades for her rightful dues.

Ignoring Civil Court Orders
During the hearing, Justice Anil Kumar Upman emphasized that the case stemmed from a 12 June 2000 tribunal order, which reinstated Patni with all service benefits. Subsequently, the civil court had confirmed the payment. However, the college continued to evade its legal obligations, prompting High Court action.

Court Comments on Justice Delay
The High Court expressed that delays in justice are equivalent to the denial of justice itself. It directed that all retirement benefits owed to Patni be calculated and paid by 30 June 2026.

Strict Deadline Issued
The court has clearly instructed the state government and Indira Gandhi Balika Niketan College, Chidawa, to make the payment within one month. Failure to comply will result in an annual interest of 12% on the pending amount.
