Ranchi: Under the leadership of Jharkhand Tourism Minister Sudivya Kumar, a high-level delegation from the state is currently on a visit to the United Kingdom. The primary objective of the tour is to preserve Jharkhand’s ancient megaliths, monoliths, and fossil heritage according to international standards and to include them in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
During the UK visit, the delegation held meetings with leading international institutions and expert groups, focusing on the scientific documentation, structural preservation, landscape management, and long-term conservation of Jharkhand’s megalithic and monolithic heritage. Special emphasis was placed on how these historic structures, which are closely linked to tribal communities, can be preserved while preparing a strong and credible submission for UNESCO World Heritage recognition.
The discussions also explored opportunities for leveraging international expertise in archaeology, heritage conservation, engineering, and consultancy, as well as building institutional capacity. Based on these expert suggestions, the Jharkhand government plans to create a clear and practical roadmap to strengthen the preservation of the state’s megalithic heritage across structural, cultural, and educational dimensions.
Minister Sudivya Kumar said that under Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s leadership, the government is fully committed to the conservation, restoration, and sustainable management of Jharkhand’s invaluable megalithic and monolithic legacy. He emphasized that the heritage is not merely an archaeological treasure but a living symbol of tribal culture, and that scientific methods, community participation, and international cooperation will ensure its long-term preservation for future generations.
Highlighting a key milestone, Sudivya Kumar noted that the delegation had meaningful discussions with the Museum of London Archaeology regarding the conservation and scientific management of Jharkhand’s ancient sites. He called this a significant step toward securing global recognition for the state’s heritage as a UNESCO World Heritage site, bringing Jharkhand’s rich cultural legacy to the world stage.
