Shocking Scene in Jharkhand: Security Guard Treats Injured Patient in Absence of Doctor at Torpa Referral Hospital

Khunti (Jharkhand): Barely 50 kilometers from the state capital Ranchi, a disturbing picture of Jharkhand’s crumbling healthcare system has emerged from Torpa Government Referral Hospital in Khunti district. In the absence of a doctor, a security guard was seen treating an injured patient, a scene that starkly highlights the dire condition of medical services in 21st-century India and 25-year-old Jharkhand.

According to reports, two youths — Naushad from Masjid Mohalla and Roshan from Kamdara — were seriously injured in a road accident near Torpa. Local villagers immediately called for an ambulance, but none arrived. Left with no choice, they rushed the victims to the hospital in a private vehicle.

When the patients reached the hospital, no doctor was on duty. Seeing the young men writhing in pain, the on-duty security guard could not stand idle. He put on gloves and began examining the wounds himself — even attempting to stitch one of the injuries.

When questioned by bystanders, the guard admitted he was not a doctor, but said he “couldn’t just watch the wounds without doing something.” The incident has triggered outrage and raised serious questions about the functioning of the state’s Health Department under Minister Irfan Ansari.

Locals expressed their anger, saying that “Jharkhand’s healthcare system now runs not on government support but on God’s mercy.” They pointed out that while hospital buildings exist, it is now the security guards who are performing dual duties — guarding the premises and treating patients.

The shocking visuals come at a time when Jharkhand’s health department is already under fire for several recent scandals, including cases of HIV-infected blood transfusions. This latest incident has once again exposed the alarming state of healthcare infrastructure in the tribal heartland, drawing both public outrage and national embarrassment for the government.
