Jharkhand Shines in Switzerland: Hemant Soren’s Global Showcase at World Economic Forum, Investments Worth Thousands of Crores on the Horizon

Davos/Ranchi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren made a strong impression on the global stage at the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland, highlighting the state’s industrial potential and investment opportunities. Focused discussions on renewable energy and mineral resources paved the way for investments worth thousands of crores, marking a historic step toward large-scale employment generation and economic growth in the state.

“Jharkhand Aims Beyond Mineral Exporting”
At the WEF, CM Hemant Soren participated in a CII-organized roundtable on “Sustainable Development and Transformation on Global Standards.” He emphasized that Jharkhand does not want to remain merely a mineral-exporting state. Instead, the government seeks to promote industries that utilize resources responsibly, protect environmental and local interests, and ensure benefits reach the people of the state.

Soren highlighted that sustainable development is not only about environmental protection but also encompasses livelihood opportunities, skill development, and social welfare, particularly for local and tribal communities. He stressed that alongside promoting mineral-based industries, the government is focusing on renewable energy, green technology, and human resource development. Soren also underlined Jharkhand’s potential in eco-tourism, nature-based tourism, and cultural tourism, aiming to create employment while preserving the state’s natural and cultural heritage.

Tech Mahindra Proposes AI Data Center in Jharkhand
During the WEF, global IT giant Tech Mahindra proposed establishing an AI data center and investing in emerging technologies in Jharkhand. Discussions with CM Hemant Soren, MLA Kalpana Murmu Soren, and the official state delegation focused on strengthening Jharkhand’s IT and digital ecosystem. Tech Mahindra noted that Jharkhand’s surplus energy potential makes it an ideal destination for energy-intensive technologies like AI and data centers. The company also expressed interest in collaborating on advanced energy solutions, including underground energy storage, and potentially establishing a Global Capability Center (GCC) in the state to manage IT services, R&D, mining research, finance, customer service, and digital innovation.

CM Soren emphasized industry-academia collaboration to prepare the youth for future opportunities and invited Tech Mahindra to support skill development and employability in the state.

Tata Steel to Invest ₹11,100 Crores in Jharkhand
Jharkhand further strengthened its global presence in investment, industrial innovation, and international cooperation during the WEF annual meeting. The state delegation, led by CM Hemant Soren, explored trade partnerships with Sweden, focusing on urban mobility and industrial collaboration. A historic agreement with Tata Steel was finalized, under which the company will invest over ₹11,100 crores in green steel technology in Jharkhand. This investment is expected to generate significant direct and indirect employment opportunities.

CM Soren was honored with the prestigious White Badge at the forum. Additionally, discussions with the Chief India Representative of the Sweden-India Business Council, Cecilia Oldne, highlighted Jharkhand as a prime destination for Swedish investment, with over 50 Swedish companies already active in India. A follow-up roundtable in April will focus on financing urban transport and furthering industrial collaboration.

Through these initiatives, Jharkhand is positioning itself as a hub for sustainable industrial growth, technological innovation, and international investment, while ensuring inclusive development for its people.
