Ranchi, Jharkhand: In a landmark decision, the Jharkhand government has officially recognized Aalim and Fazil degrees—equivalent to high school and intermediate levels—for eligibility in government jobs. This move comes as a major relief for thousands of students who were waiting for recognition of their qualifications, including candidates selected for the Assistant Acharya Recruitment 2023, whose appointments had been stalled due to legal hurdles.
Background and Significance
Aalim and Fazil degrees are awarded to students completing Islamic education along with studies in Arabic, Persian, Urdu, English, and Hindi. Several states, including Jharkhand, consider these degrees equivalent to high school and intermediate education.
The issue recently gained attention when selected candidates’ document verification was halted, citing a Supreme Court directive, leaving hundreds of qualified students in uncertainty. The Jharkhand State Minority Commission, led by Chairman Hidayatullah Khan, intervened by writing to Chief Minister Hemant Soren, Higher Education Minister Sudivya Kumar Sonu, and Minority Welfare Minister Hafizul Hasan, urging for a positive resolution to ensure that students’ futures were not jeopardized.
Government Decision
Following the new directive, all technical and legal barriers have been removed, allowing Aalim and Fazil degree holders to freely apply for government positions based on their eligibility. Minister Hafizul Hasan emphasized that this step promotes equal opportunities in education and employment, ensuring that no candidate is deprived of opportunities due to their academic background.
Students’ Reaction
The decision has been widely welcomed by the community, bringing hope and relief to thousands of young aspirants who had long fought for recognition of their qualifications. It is also expected to boost Madarsa education and help integrate graduates into the mainstream workforce, contributing positively to Jharkhand’s social and economic development.
This move is seen as a significant step toward social justice, inclusivity, and educational empowerment, reinforcing the state’s commitment to recognizing diverse educational paths.
