DHANBAD: In a major relief for families displaced by the ongoing fire in Jharia coal mines, the central government will provide flats on lease in Belgarhia Township. Announcing the move, Union Coal and Mines Minister G. Kishan Reddy emphasized that while the flats will be available for multiple generations, they cannot be sold.
Flats for Jharia Displaced Families
The flats in Belgarhia Township have been developed by the Jharia Rehabilitation and Development Authority (JRDA) as part of a rehabilitation program for families affected by mine fires and landslide-prone areas. Speaking at an event in the township, Minister Reddy clarified that these flats are intended for long-term residence and ownership will remain with the government, preventing any resale.
Minister Announces Rehabilitation Efforts
Minister Reddy stated, “The central and state governments are committed to relocating residents from hazardous areas to safe locations. The district administration, BCCL, and JRDA are making tireless efforts to safeguard the interests of the affected residents.”
Purpose of Belgarhia Township
Reddy added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviews the situation in the fire-affected Jharia region every month. “The main objective of Belgarhia Township is to provide safety and improve the living standards of residents. This is why the Jharia Master Plan has been prepared,” he said.
The Union Minister’s announcement comes as a significant relief for the displaced families of Jharia, offering them secure housing and an improved quality of life while ensuring long-term settlement in safe areas.
