Ranchi, Jharkhand: In a historic first for the country, Jharkhand Health Minister Dr. Irfan Ansari has announced that he will personally attend to patients at RIMS (Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences) as part of regular OPD (Outpatient Department) services. Dr. Ansari will also undertake a district-wise tour across Jharkhand, visiting every district hospital to treat patients directly. The minister emphasized that he intends to function not merely as a political leader but as a hands-on doctor, gaining firsthand understanding of patient concerns.
Understanding Hospital Functioning Through OPD Visits
During his OPD sessions, Dr. Ansari will meet patients and closely examine hospital operations, including medicine availability, staff shortages, cleanliness, basic facilities, and infrastructure conditions. He plans to review doctors’ and nurses’ shifts, duty timings, and work practices to implement necessary improvements and ensure optimal functioning.
Sudden Inspection at RIMS Highlights Gaps
Earlier, Dr. Ansari conducted a surprise visit to RIMS’ trauma center, interacting with admitted patients and assessing their needs. The inspection revealed that several patients had to purchase medicines externally. On discovering these lapses, the minister strongly reprimanded the RIMS director and concerned doctors, issuing clear directives that negligence at any level in patient care will not be tolerated.
Dr. Ansari stated, “Providing top-quality healthcare to the public is my mission. Transparency, accountability, and a patient-centric approach remain our key priorities.”
