Jharkhand Assembly in Uproar Over MBBS Admissions and Sand Scam; Babulal Marandi Demands CBI Probe

Ranchi, Jharkhand: The third day of the Jharkhand Assembly session witnessed heated exchanges as the BJP raised serious allegations of irregularities in MBBS admissions and soaring sand prices. Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Babulal Marandi demanded a CBI investigation into the alleged scams.

Supplementary Budget Presented

The state government presented a supplementary budget of ₹7,721.25 crore for FY 2025-26. Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore tabled the budget, allocating ₹2,082.25 crore to the Women, Child Development, and Social Security Department, ₹1,324.82 crore to the Rural Works Department, and ₹729.75 crore to Health, Medical Education, and Family Welfare. Discussions on the budget dominated the Assembly proceedings.

MBBS Admissions Scam Alleged

Babulal Marandi accused the government of mismanagement in MBBS counseling conducted by the Jharkhand Combined Competitive Examination Board (JCECB). According to Marandi, candidates are securing admissions using fake certificates, including falsified domicile and caste documents. He criticized the government for failing to link the counseling process with the National Testing Agency (NTA) results, which should have ensured transparency. Marandi also demanded the removal of responsible officers from the board and called for a full CBI inquiry into the irregularities.

Sand Supply Controversy

Meanwhile, BJP legislator Shashi Bhushan Mehta raised concerns over the skyrocketing price of sand in the state. He alleged that the sand supply was being monopolized through police-managed lists of tractor operators, resulting in severe price inflation. What used to cost ₹300 per tractor now reportedly costs ₹7,000 per tractor, leaving citizens unable to afford basic construction materials.

The Assembly session highlighted growing political tension over governance failures, with both education and infrastructure scams coming under intense scrutiny.
