Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh: The police in Jhansi have cleared out decades-old weapons from the evidence storage of Raksa Police Station. A total of 44 guns and 83 daggers, seized in murder, robbery, and assault cases, had been lying idle in the police store for nearly 27 years. These items were linked to cases that had long been resolved.
Due to space constraints in the police store, authorities sought court permission to dispose of the weapons. Once approval was granted, the police cut and destroyed the guns and daggers using industrial grinders, freeing up space in the storage facility.
Storage Challenges Across the City
This incident highlights a broader issue: several police stations in Jhansi, including Navabad, Sadar Bazar, Sipri Bazar, and Premnagar, are facing acute space shortages in their evidence rooms. A new storage facility was built in Natha Navabad, but it too has now reached full capacity. Police stores across the city are filled with confiscated weapons, illegal alcohol, and other items seized during criminal investigations, posing significant logistical challenges.
Linked to 127 Cases
The destroyed weapons were connected to 127 cases dating back nearly three decades. The operation was carried out under the supervision of CO Sadar Ramveer Singh and other administrative officials. The disposal recovered over 20 kilograms of iron, which will now be recycled.
This clean-up effort not only frees up valuable storage space but also reflects the police’s ongoing efforts to manage old evidence efficiently while maintaining transparency and safety.
