Jewar Airport and Ganga Expressway Inaugurations Scheduled for January and February; PM Modi to Attend

Lucknow: The Uttar Pradesh government is accelerating preparations for the inauguration of two major infrastructure projects before the 2027 Assembly elections. After the successful inauguration of the Prerna Sthal, the state government is now gearing up for the grand unveiling of Jewar Airport in January and the Ganga Expressway in February.

The state government’s plans came to light following a meeting between Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where discussions about these landmark projects took place. During the meeting, CM Yogi shared updates on the completion of these projects and sought a suitable date for their inauguration from PM Modi. Once PM Modi confirms his schedule, the inauguration dates will be announced. Both projects are in the final stages of completion.

First Phase of Jewar Airport Completed

The Noida International Airport in Jewar, located in the Gautam Buddh Nagar district, is being developed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model across 1,300 hectares. The work on the first phase of the airport is now complete. With the inauguration of the airport, air services will commence to several cities, marking a significant milestone. Once operational, the airport will make Uttar Pradesh home to five international airports, significantly enhancing the state’s air connectivity.

Ganga Expressway Inauguration Set for February

The Ganga Expressway, spanning 594 kilometers from Meerut to Prayagraj, is nearing completion and is set to be inaugurated in February. This expressway will drastically reduce travel time from 10-12 hours to just 6 hours between Meerut and Prayagraj. According to YUPIDA officials, the construction of the expressway is nearly complete, and trial runs are expected to begin soon.

Key Features of the Ganga Expressway

The Ganga Expressway will pass through 12 districts of the state, including Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Raebareli, Pratapgarh, and Prayagraj, providing direct connectivity to all these areas.

The expressway is set to become one of the key infrastructural achievements of the state, with an investment of ₹7,742 crore. The construction was carried out in four phases. IRB Infrastructure Developers completed the first phase, costing ₹1,746 crore, while Adani Enterprises handled the remaining three packages, with costs of ₹1,720 crore, ₹2,177 crore, and ₹2,099 crore respectively.

Connecting Jewar Airport with the Ganga Expressway

One of the significant advantages of the Ganga Expressway will be its direct connection to the Jewar International Airport, which will benefit passengers traveling from Delhi. The state government plans to link the expressway with the airport, offering fast and direct connectivity to the eastern regions of the state. In the supplementary budget, ₹1,246 crore has been allocated for this project, while ₹1,865 crore has been set aside for the expressway’s overall development.
