JDU MLA Komal Singh Questions Stadium Construction, Puts Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh on the Spot

Patna, February 3:
During the second day of the 2026 Bihar Assembly budget session, Janata Dal (United) MLA Komal Singh from Gayghat, Muzaffarpur, confronted her own government over alleged discrepancies in stadium construction in her constituency. Singh described the official reports as misleading and demanded a high-level inquiry into the matter.

Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh, an international shooter and BJP MLA from Jamui, responded by citing geo-tagging evidence to substantiate the department’s claims. Singh assured that photographic proof of the stadiums exists and proposed site visits for the MLA to verify the progress firsthand. The minister also promised corrective action based on any shortcomings identified during inspections.

Ground Reality vs Official Reports

Komal Singh alleged that in Jarang and Athwara panchayats, areas labeled as stadiums were in fact empty school grounds with no modern facilities for athletes. The exchange between the two young leaders drew significant attention in the Assembly, highlighting accountability and transparency concerns.

Political Heritage and Background

Both Komal Singh and Shreyasi Singh come from influential political families. Komal Singh, daughter of JD(U) MLC Dinesh Prasad Singh and former LJP MP Veena Devi, holds an MBA and won the 2025 Assembly election from Gayghat on a JD(U) ticket. Shreyasi Singh, daughter of the late Digvijay Singh (former Minister of State for Railways under Atal Bihari Vajpayee), has been a champion shooter and serves as Bihar’s current Sports Minister. She holds a BA from Hansraj College, Delhi University, and an MBA from Manav Rachna International University, Faridabad.

The debate underscored the growing assertiveness of young legislators and ministers, as well as the ongoing focus on infrastructural accountability in Bihar’s politics.
