Jaunpur: Youth Maims Own Foot in Shocking Scheme to Secure MBBS Seat Under Disability Quota

In a sensational revelation from Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh, police have exposed a shocking plot in which a young man deliberately injured himself to gain admission to an MBBS course under the disability quota. The incident has stunned local authorities and the public alike.

According to the Jaunpur police, the accused, 24-year-old Suraj Bhaskar of Khalilpur in Line Bazar police jurisdiction, severed the toes of his left foot to present himself as differently-abled. The scheme came to light on Thursday after a detailed investigation by the police.

How the Incident Unfolded

Police investigations revealed that Suraj, who had previously completed a D Pharma course and was preparing for NEET, deliberately searched online for methods to mutilate his foot. Using a grinder, he cut off his toes and disposed of both the severed toes and the grinder in a nearby well. The police later recovered the grinder but could not find the toes.

The investigation was aided by Suraj’s personal diary and statements from his girlfriend, which confirmed his intention to secure an MBBS seat at all costs.

Initial Cover-Up Attempt

Initially, Suraj had registered a case of attempted murder against unknown persons, claiming that his toes had been severed during a late-night attack on January 18. Police also filed a case against two individuals based on his statement. However, the ongoing investigation revealed the truth about the self-inflicted injury.

Suraj’s girlfriend told police that he had attempted to obtain disability documentation at BHU in October 2025 but failed, prompting him to maim himself and stage the incident to mislead authorities.

The police are preparing the final report (FR) and plan to initiate legal action against Suraj for deceiving authorities.
