New Delhi: The Delhi Police have revealed serious negligence by a contractor in connection with a fatal bike accident in Janakpuri, where a biker fell into an uncovered excavation site. According to the police, the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) contractor failed to implement basic safety measures such as warning boards and barricades.
Negligence Confirmed in Police Report
Police submitted their findings to the court, stating that initial investigations—including CCTV footage review—showed that the contractor and his workers did not install any signage or barricades around the excavation site. The observations were presented before Judicial Magistrate Harjot Singh Aujla at Dwarka Court, who asked the investigating officer (IO) to submit a detailed status report.
Arrests and Suspensions Made
Two individuals have been arrested in connection with the incident: a sub-contractor, Rajesh Prajapati, and a worker, Yogesh, both of whom have been sent to judicial custody. Meanwhile, three DJB officials have been suspended pending further investigation. Police noted that the lack of precautions directly contributed to the biker’s death.
Contract Details
The investigation revealed that the DJB had awarded the contract for the replacement and repair of peripheral sewer lines in Janakpuri on 9 October 2025, following a work order issued on 27 June 2025. CCTV footage showed the arrested worker, Yogesh, attempting to cover the excavation site with barricades and sheets only after the incident occurred.
Police emphasized that the probe is ongoing and remains in its early stages, with further inquiries into contractor accountability and site safety measures underway.
