Srinagar: Security agencies have tracked down the mastermind behind the Faridabad terror module, identified as Imam Irfan Ahmad, a native of Shopian, Jammu & Kashmir. Investigations suggest that his network may also have links to the car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort.
Background and Arrest
Irfan, a Kashmiri cleric, was arrested following an extensive police operation. He also worked as a paramedic at the Government Medical College (GMC), Srinagar. According to sources, he allegedly ran a white-collar terror module targeting medical students and young doctors, aiming to radicalize them. His network in Faridabad was arrested hours before the Delhi car blast on Monday, indicating a possible operational connection.
Network within Medical College
Sources revealed that Imam Irfan, based at a mosque in Naugam, Srinagar, conducted prayer sessions and maintained influence over local youth. Using his position at the medical college, he targeted sensitive students and staff, studying their mindset before attempting to radicalize them.
Police Investigation
The probe began on 19 October, after Jaish-e-Mohammed posters appeared in Banpora Naugam, threatening police and security forces. A case was registered under the UAPA, Explosives Act, and Arms Act at Naugam Police Station. Three local activists with a history of stone-pelting were taken into custody and, during interrogation, revealed the network’s connection to Imam Irfan Ahmad. Based on this information, Dr. Adil Ahmad and Zameer Ahangar from Shopian were also arrested.
Further Investigations
Police have arrested three more alleged associates from Naugam: Arif Nisar Dar (Sahil), Yasir-ul-Ashraf, and Maksud Ahmad Dar (Shahid). Investigations are ongoing to uncover the entire module, track its financial flows, and interrogate relatives and associates to map the broader network. Authorities continue to verify the full extent of the module’s links to radical activities in Delhi and other regions.
