Jaipur: As Makar Sankranti celebrations reach their peak in Jaipur, rooftops across the city are filled with kite enthusiasts eager to test their skills. But amid the excitement, the city’s birds face serious danger from flying strings coated with glass and other sharp materials, commonly known as manjha.
To protect the feathered residents, Jaipur has deployed a dedicated “Bird Army” across the city. Teams of veterinarians stationed at temporary camps are treating hundreds of injured birds each day.
Kite-Flying Fever Sweeps Jaipur
From early morning, residents and officials alike have been busy flying kites, and the celebrations are expected to continue into the evening. However, the soaring kites and trailing strings pose a serious threat to birds, many of which get entangled and injured. The “Bird Army” has been set up to provide immediate rescue and treatment to these helpless creatures.
Multiple Organizations Run Help Camps
Several organizations, including the Rajasthan Jan Manch Trust Bird Hospital, Bhagwan Mahavir Dharamarth Bird Hospital, Vardhman Sthanakvasi Jain Shravak Jaipur Sangh, and the Udaan Conservation Foundation, have set up temporary camps in different parts of the city. These camps are staffed with veterinarians ready to treat injured birds. This year, teams are stationed in over a dozen locations across Jaipur, continuing the work started on Tuesday. Hundreds of birds are rescued and treated daily.
