Jaipur Traffic Police Crack Down: ₹10,000 Fine and Jail for Horn Misuse, Tinted Windows

Jaipur: Motorists in Jaipur beware — a minor traffic violation could now cost you up to ₹10,000 and even lead to jail time. The city’s traffic police have stepped up enforcement against violations such as excessive honking and black window tints, aiming to maintain road safety and public order.

Over the past two weeks, Jaipur traffic authorities ran an awareness campaign, educating drivers about traffic rules, including the prohibition of loud horns near schools, hospitals, and sensitive zones. Now, the police have moved from awareness to strict enforcement.

On 2 December, traffic police confiscated high-volume horns from around 400 vehicles and issued 126 challans. DCP Traffic Sumit Meharda warned motorists that under Section 190(2) of the Motor Vehicle Act, anyone using loud horns to violate traffic rules could face fines of up to ₹10,000 and imprisonment for up to three months, with both penalties applicable simultaneously.

Black window tints are also under scrutiny. South District police conducted a two-day drive and seized over 100 vehicles with black films, including 33 Thar SUVs and 23 Scorpios. Modified motorcycle silencers were also confiscated. Vehicles were either penalized or had the illegal modifications removed. DCP South Rajarshi Raj stated that the crackdown on tinted windows and other illegal modifications will continue until compliance is ensured.

The traffic police urge all Jaipur drivers to follow the rules, remove illegal modifications, and maintain noise discipline, as violations now carry significant financial and legal consequences.
