Jaipur Prepares Special Parking Masterplan: Roads May Soon Rule Your Wallet

Jaipur: To tackle traffic congestion and parking shortages, the Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) has unveiled a high-profile “Special Parking Masterplan” that will overhaul the city’s parking system. The plan, announced after a traffic control board meeting chaired by JDA Commissioner Siddharth Mahajan, introduces peak-hour parking rates, strict building map audits, and designated plots for private bus parking—aimed at transforming how Jaipur moves.

Peak-Hour Parking Rates and Building Inspections

Under the new policy, crowded areas—including the Gaurav Tower (GT) area—will see higher parking fees during peak hours to discourage vehicles from occupying public roads unnecessarily. The city has identified 84 critical locations where building maps will undergo rigorous scrutiny. If commercial establishments are found using parking spaces for non-parking purposes, authorities will take strict action.

Private Buses to Move Off Streets

Private buses, a major contributor to traffic jams, will no longer occupy city streets. JDA and Jaipur Municipal Corporation (JMC) plan to identify vacant plots across the city, offering them at reasonable rates for bus parking. The objective is clear: no bus should remain parked on public roads. Additionally, a crackdown will remove encroachments from commercial building parking areas.

Expert-Driven Road Planning

City road development will now follow structured, expert-driven planning. Traffic specialists will study successful models from other metropolitan cities. For instance, a new U-turn design beneath the Sanganer Flyover has been approved to ease congestion on Mahal Road.

Stricter Rules for Marriage Gardens, Hotels, and Malls

Marriage gardens must now reserve 25% of their total area exclusively for parking, and this space cannot be used for other purposes. Hotels and malls will also undergo audits to ensure customer vehicles are parked in basements rather than on streets, reducing road-side congestion.

With this comprehensive masterplan, Jaipur aims to reduce traffic snarls, optimize parking, and streamline urban mobility—a move that could redefine driving habits across the city.
