Jaipur Metro Expansion: Underground Journey Under Old City Walls Set to Begin

Jaipur: The Jaipur Metro is set to expand its reach from Badi Chaupar to Transport Nagar, with the Phase-1C corridor soon taking commuters underground through the heart of the city. The Jaipur Development Authority (JDA) recently resolved a key land issue, clearing the way for construction to proceed smoothly.

Land Swap Clears the Way

In a recent meeting of the Land and Property Settlement Committee, approval was granted for the use of 7,700 sq. meters of forest department land along the Phase-1C alignment. In exchange, the JDA allotted 2.01 hectares of land in Daulatpura village, Amer Tehsil to the forest department. This land-swap agreement eliminates the legal hurdles that were delaying construction along the corridor.

Underground and Elevated Sections

The new Phase-1C stretch will extend the existing 11.97 km Pink Line by 2.85 km, running from Badi Chaupar through Ramganj Chaupar to Transport Nagar. Most of the route will be underground, significantly easing traffic congestion in the old city, while 0.59 km will be an elevated corridor.

New Stations and Timeline

The project will feature a modern underground station at Ramganj Chaupar and an elevated station at Transport Nagar. Construction is progressing rapidly, building on the foundation laid by the previous Gehlot government in September 2023. Officials anticipate that the route will be operational by April 2027, offering a major relief to the city’s traffic woes.

Additionally, the committee has allocated land in Chaksu for a government school, demonstrating a push toward balanced urban development alongside the metro expansion.
