Jaipur:
The Jaipur District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission has taken a strict stance against Bollywood actor Salman Khan, issuing a bailable warrant of ₹10,000 against him in connection with an alleged misleading pan masala advertisement. The commission has directed the Jaipur Police to ensure the execution of the warrant and secure the actor’s presence before the commission.
The action stems from a contempt petition filed before the commission, alleging that despite a prior ban, the actor continued to promote Rajshree Pan Masala by falsely projecting the product as “saffron-infused,” thereby misleading consumers. The commission had earlier, on January 6, ordered a complete ban on the advertisement.
Alleged Violation of Commission’s Order
According to the petition, even after the commission’s directive, a promotional signboard of the same advertisement was reportedly installed on January 9 near Nayapura Stadium in Kota. The commission viewed this as a clear violation of its order and an act of contempt.
Taking note of the allegations, District Consumer Commission No. 2, presided over by Judicial Member Gyarsi Lal Meena, passed the order while hearing the contempt plea filed by Yogendra Singh. The commission instructed the Jaipur Police Commissioner to ensure compliance with the bailable warrant.
Appearance Fixed for February 6
As per the order, Salman Khan has been directed to appear before the commission on February 6. The commission observed that misleading advertisements adversely affect consumer interests and emphasized that strict action is necessary in such cases.
The commission further stated that promotion through deceptive claims amounts to a violation of consumer protection laws, and non-compliance with its orders could invite stronger legal action against the concerned parties.
The case has drawn significant attention, given the involvement of a prominent film personality, and has once again brought the issue of celebrity endorsements and accountability in advertising into focus.
