Jaipur: The Pink City is witnessing a surge of domestic and international tourists as the year-end approaches. With heavy crowds flooding the city, Jaipur Traffic Police have implemented a new traffic management plan from 27 December to 4 January. Entry of heavy and slow-moving vehicles into the walled city (Parkota area) will be restricted from 9 AM to 9 PM daily. Vehicles heading towards Amer, Subhash Chowk, and City Palace have been diverted to alternative routes to ensure smooth traffic flow.
Tourist Rush Pressures Walled City Traffic
As is customary during the year’s final week, Jaipur has seen a sharp rise in tourist numbers. Domestic tourists, especially, have flocked to the city as schools have been on winter break since 25 December, coupled with two additional public holidays over the weekend. Parkota, housing major attractions like Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, City Palace, Sargasuli, and Jal Mahal, has become the focal point of tourist activity, putting significant pressure on traffic in the area. Following the recent ban on battery-operated e-rickshaws, autorickshaw congestion has further increased.
Traffic Diversion Plan in Effect Until 4 January
Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Yogesh Dadheech has issued detailed instructions to manage the expected traffic surge:
- Entry of slow-moving and light goods vehicles into the Parkota area is prohibited from 9 AM to 9 PM.
- During peak congestion, traffic at Ajmeri Gate, New Gate, Sanganeri Gate, Ghat Gate, Galta Gate, Ramgarh Mod, and Sanjay Circle will be diverted for mini-buses and low-floor buses along parallel routes.
- Traffic from Badi Chaupad to Subhash Chowk will operate on both sides of the road.

- Entry from Gangauri Bazaar to City Palace via Sardul Singh Ki Naal will be prohibited.
- Atish Gate traffic towards City Palace and Jantar Mantar will be restricted.

- Traffic from Ramganj Chaupad to Char Darwaza, and Char Darwaza to Subhash Chowk, will be prohibited.
