
Jaipur, Rajasthan: A high-speed Audi car wreaked havoc on the streets of Jaipur on Friday night, leaving one dead and at least 16 others injured. The incident occurred in the bustling Manasrovar area, where roadside food stalls were packed with people enjoying their evening. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as the car smashed into multiple stalls, causing extensive damage and panic.
When and Where
The accident took place at around 9:30 PM near Kharbas Circle in the Manasrovar area, under the jurisdiction of the Journalist Colony police station. The area is usually crowded at night, with numerous food stalls lining the streets.
How the Crash Happened
According to police and eyewitness accounts, the Audi was racing at approximately 120 km/h. The car first hit a road divider and then lost control, plowing into the roadside food stalls. The impact destroyed over ten stalls and overturned another car. The Audi eventually came to a halt after crashing into a tree about 100 meters ahead.
Driver and Occupants
Police investigations revealed that the Audi was driven by Dinesh Ranwan, a solar businessman from Churu. Three other individuals were in the car, including a Jaipur police constable. Following the crash, the driver and two others fled the scene, while one youth was apprehended by the crowd. Initial reports indicate that the occupants were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
Cause of the Accident
Authorities attribute the crash to reckless driving, excessive speed, and racing on public roads. The driver reportedly lost control due to a combination of speed, alcohol, and negligence. The vehicle has been identified as an Audi A4 (B8.5 generation), and preliminary investigations confirm it was extremely powerful, contributing to the severity of the incident.
Casualties and Injuries
The injured were rushed to Jaipuria Hospital with the assistance of local residents. One young man, identified as Ramesh Bairwa from Bhilwara, a helper at a food stall, was pronounced dead at the hospital. Four individuals in critical condition were referred to SMS Hospital for further treatment, where medical care is ongoing.
Police and Administrative Action
Jaipur police have seized the Audi and recovered mobile phones of all occupants for investigation. Search teams have been deployed to apprehend the fugitives. Considering the gravity of the incident, Deputy Chief Minister Premchand Bairwa visited the site, while Health Minister Gajendra Singh Khimsar attended to oversee medical arrangements. Police and administration are continuing their intensive investigation to ensure accountability.
