Jaidev Shroff Divorce: Mumbai Industrialist, Wife Poonam Shroff Finally Divorce After 11-Year Legal Battle

Mumbai: After an 11-year-long legal battle, industrialist Jaidev Shroff and his wife Poonam Shroff have officially divorced. The Bandra Family Court has granted the divorce, ordering Jaidev Shroff to pay a one-time alimony of ₹10 crore to Poonam.

Alimony Claims and Court Orders
Poonam Shroff had sought a staggering ₹1,000 crore in alimony, but her petition was rejected by the court. Instead, the court directed Jaidev Shroff to pay a lump sum of ₹10 crore within three months as full and final settlement.

The court also dismissed Poonam’s claims for lifelong residence in the Bandra marital home and rights over any overseas properties. It ruled that the marriage, solemnized in 2004 and January 2005 under Hindu Vedic rites and the Special Marriage Act, ended in divorce on the grounds of cruelty.

Prolonged Legal Battle
The divorce petition was originally filed in 2015 at the Bandra Family Court. Over the years, the case reached both the Bombay High Court and the Supreme Court multiple times. In December 2021, the Supreme Court first directed the Family Court to expedite the hearing. In 2023, Poonam filed for maintenance, and in March 2024, the Supreme Court again instructed the Family Court to decide the divorce petition within six months.

Ultimately, the Bandra Family Court approved the divorce last week, concluding one of Mumbai’s most high-profile matrimonial disputes. The judgment marks the end of over a decade of legal proceedings and speculation surrounding one of the city’s most prominent industrial families.
