Jabalpur’s Sihora on Edge After Clash; 49 Arrested, Drone Surveillance Intensified

Jabalpur | February 21, 2026: Tension continues to prevail in Sihora town of Jabalpur district after a dispute between two communities escalated into violence on Thursday night. Police have arrested 49 individuals so far and intensified security measures, including drone surveillance, to maintain law and order in the sensitive area.

The clash reportedly erupted at Azad Chowk during evening religious activities at a temple and a nearby mosque. A disagreement over loudspeaker use quickly escalated, leading to stone-pelting, vandalism of vehicles, and injuries. Authorities had to call in police personnel from 12 different stations to bring the situation under control.

Heavy Police Deployment, Drone Monitoring

Following the unrest, the area has been heavily barricaded, and unnecessary movement has been restricted. Drone cameras are being used to monitor rooftops and sensitive spots, while CCTV footage is being scrutinized to identify those involved in the violence.

Superintendent of Police Sampat Upadhyay confirmed that FIRs have been registered based on complaints from both sides. “So far, 49 accused have been arrested. Strict action, including invocation of the National Security Act (NSA), will be taken against anyone attempting to spread rumors or disturb communal harmony,” he said.

Protests and Preventive Measures

In protest against the incident, members of the Vishva Hindu Parishad and Bajrang Dal gathered outside the local police station and recited the Hanuman Chalisa. Meanwhile, Friday prayers at the mosque were conducted under tight security.

A brief confrontation occurred near the old bus stand when groups from both communities assembled in the area. Police used mild force to disperse the crowd and prevent further escalation. Traders voluntarily kept their establishments closed on Friday as a precautionary measure.

CCTV-Based Identification and Ongoing Investigation

Police reviewed CCTV footage and video clips overnight to identify suspects. While minors and elderly individuals were reportedly released with warnings, other accused were taken into custody and transported to city police stations for further legal proceedings.

The district administration has claimed that the situation is currently under control, though security remains heightened in view of the area’s sensitivity, as places of worship of both communities are located in close proximity.

Authorities are also closely monitoring social media platforms to prevent the spread of misinformation and have conducted flag marches in vulnerable localities to reassure residents.

While normal life in the rest of Jabalpur city remains unaffected, law enforcement agencies continue to maintain a strong presence in Sihora to ensure peace and prevent any recurrence of violence.
