Jabalpur Agricultural University: Two Staff Members Arrested for Rape, Victim Lured with Job Promise

A shocking case of sexual assault has come to light at Jawaharlal Nehru Agricultural University (JNKVV) in Jabalpur. A 22-year-old woman, seeking employment, was allegedly raped by two university staff members after being lured with a false job offer. The accused have been identified as Durgashankar Singraha (58), an Upper Division Clerk (UDC), and Mukesh Sen, a peon. Both have been arrested and charged under the Indian Penal Code for rape.

Incident Occurred Inside University Premises:
According to police, the victim, a resident of Tilwara, learned through social media about contract-based job openings at the university. She obtained a contact number from the university website, which led her to Durgashankar Singraha. He provided details about the position and instructed her to visit the university with her documents.

The next day, when the victim visited the campus, Durgashankar assured her that her application was being processed and promised that she would soon get an interview. He met her on multiple occasions, continuing to give the same assurances.

Rape at Peon’s Residence:
On December 25, Durgashankar called the victim to the university again and then took her to Mukesh Sen’s residence. According to the victim’s statement, after a brief conversation, Mukesh Sen left the room, locking the door, and Durgashankar Singraha allegedly committed the assault.

Following her complaint, the police registered a rape case against both individuals. They were subsequently arrested, presented in court, and remanded to judicial custody.

This disturbing incident highlights serious concerns regarding campus safety and the misuse of authority by university staff. Authorities are investigating the matter thoroughly to ensure justice for the victim.
