Jaisalmer, Rajasthan: The Rajasthan Police’s intelligence wing has detained a local youth from the Pokhran area of Jaisalmer district on charges of spying for Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). The accused, identified as 28-year-old Jhabraram, allegedly shared sensitive information related to the Indian Army with Pakistani handlers.
Additional Director General of Police (Intelligence) Prafull Kumar told the media that the suspect had passed on strategic and confidential details about the Indian Army to operators across the border. He added that the arrest was the result of continuous surveillance and intelligence inputs indicating a rise in espionage activities by Pakistani agencies in Rajasthan’s border regions.
Suspicious Activities Detected
ADGP Kumar said that based on these intelligence inputs, the Rajasthan intelligence department launched a focused technical and human intelligence operation, which led to the identification of the suspect. Jhabraram, a resident of Nedan village in the Sankra police station area of Pokhran, was found to have suspicious activities.
“Technical analysis revealed that he was in regular contact with Pakistani intelligence officials via various social media platforms. Forensic examination of his mobile phone and further interrogation led to startling disclosures,” ADGP Kumar stated.
Trapped Through Honeytrap
The officer added that Jhabraram had been lured into the espionage network through a honeytrap and financial inducements. He reportedly shared sensitive information about Indian Army movements and installations in exchange for money. Investigators also revealed that the suspect had provided the OTP of a SIM card registered in his name to Pakistani handlers, which was then used to activate WhatsApp—a key communication channel for carrying out anti-national activities.
Following preliminary verification, Jhabraram was brought to the central interrogation center in Jaipur, where he was jointly questioned by Rajasthan Police Intelligence, military intelligence, and other central security agencies.
ADGP Kumar confirmed that after corroborating the evidence, the Rajasthan intelligence agency registered a formal case under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, and officially arrested the accused on Friday.
