Is a Major Shake-Up Coming in Congress Ahead of UP 2027 Elections? Key Strategy Meet Held in Delhi Under Priyanka Gandhi’s Leadership

Lucknow: The political buzz around the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections is gaining momentum much earlier than expected. The Congress Party has intensified its preparations and held an important meeting in Delhi, led by Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, signaling a possible major organisational overhaul ahead of the crucial polls.

Although party leaders maintained that the meeting was primarily focused on preparations for the December 14 anti-SIR rally at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan, political observers believe the closed-door discussions indicate Congress’s growing strategic activity with an eye on 2027.

Why UP Remains Central to National Politics

For decades, political analysts have reiterated that “the road to Delhi passes through Uttar Pradesh.” The 2027 Assembly elections will be followed by the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, making Uttar Pradesh a key battleground for any party aiming for national relevance.

The recent NDA victory in the Bihar Assembly elections has further intensified opposition concerns. Parties in the INDIA bloc continue to allege irregularities under the SIR (Systematic Identification & Removal) policy, describing it as a tool for large-scale voter deletion.

Opposition Alleges Massive Voter Removal

  • Akhilesh Yadav alleged that there is a conspiracy to remove 5 crore voters from the UP rolls.
  • AAP MP Sanjay Singh claimed that 3 crore names are being deleted.
  • The Congress has accused the government of using SIR to systematically remove voters, calling it a direct threat to democracy.

In response, the party is organising a massive “Rally Against Voter Fraud” on December 14 in Delhi.

Priyanka Gandhi Leads High-Level Strategy Session

Thursday’s meeting was attended by:

  • UP Congress president Ajay Rai
  • State in-charge Avinash Pande
  • AICC general secretary (organisation) K.C. Venugopal
  • District and city presidents from the Brij and Western UP zones

Leaders reviewed rally preparations and discussed plans to mobilise a large number of supporters.

‘Congress is Ready for a Big Fight’: Leadership Speaks

UP Congress chief Ajay Rai said the rally will be a powerful stand against “government repression, injustice, and manipulation of democratic processes.”
State in-charge Avinash Pande added that “voter deletion is an attack on democratic values, and resisting it is a collective responsibility.”

With its revived leadership and assertive messaging, the Congress appears poised for major moves in the run-up to the 2027 elections—raising questions about whether a significant internal restructuring or political shift may be on the horizon.
