Bhopal: In a notable statement promoting inclusive learning, senior IPS officer Raja Babu Singh has suggested that madrasa students should study the Bhagavad Gita alongside the Quran. The suggestion was made while addressing students of a madrasa in Dohra village, Sehore district, via video conference on the occasion of Republic Day.
Message of Knowledge and Enlightenment
Raja Babu Singh, Additional Director General of Police (Training), encouraged students to broaden their horizons by studying the Gita, saying it could help illuminate their paths in life alongside the teachings of the Quran. “The madrasa’s Maulana is an old friend of mine and requested me to address the students on Republic Day. I congratulated the students on pursuing education and urged them and their teachers to cultivate awareness about environmental protection, scientific thinking, and tolerance,” Singh said.
The 1994-batch IPS officer emphasized that both the Quran and Bhagavad Gita have been sources of wisdom for centuries and recommended that students study both to gain deeper understanding.
Guidance Beyond Religion
Raja Babu Singh, who previously served as Inspector General of the BSF in Kashmir, also highlighted the importance of national unity. He told students, “India is a vast country, and it is your duty to uphold its unity and integrity from Kashmir to Kanyakumari.” He had earlier instructed all police training schools in Madhya Pradesh to conduct sessions on the Gita and Ramcharitmanas to help trainees live in accordance with truth and dharma.
Political Support
BJP MLA Rameshwar Sharma expressed support for Singh’s statement, calling the Gita not just a religious scripture but a philosophy that guides life. He said studying the Gita instills self-confidence, social harmony, and the courage to fight injustice and crime.
Sharma further stated that if Urdu can be taught to Hindu children in madrasas, studying the Gita should not be objectionable. “The Gita is not confined to a single religion; it is a guiding scripture for all communities,” he added.
